CRIS410 - First Responders Final Project
Course Description
First Responders are likely to experience a singular or series of traumatic events throughout the duration of their career. Traumatic events can directly or indirectly affect individuals in different ways and in varying degrees that may have a lasting negative impact on one’s mental health.
In this ten-week capstone course, you will be integrating personal knowledge and experiences and applying them to course learnings. Upon completion of this course, you will have created a project proposal that will serve as a strategic framework towards advancing the mental health agenda for the First Responder Community, and that addresses the particular needs of an organization.
In this course, you will be introduced to several key publicly and privately funded initiatives that serve to heighten the level of awareness and education associated with advancing the agenda of First Responders and mental health. We will examine these concepts and elements through initiatives in academia and government, relevant legislation, not for profit organizations, corporate stewardship programs, media, and online resources.
You will have the opportunity to apply what you have learned in the previous courses of this program by synthesizing and self-reflecting upon the knowledge you have gained. You will engage in a variety of experiential learning activities framed as case studies, scenarios, and a final project in order to apply the skills acquired against the backcloth of what you have learned throughout the entire program—integrating personal knowledge and/or experiences.
